Among the worst-affected areas were the Nehru Block, staff canteen, Advanced Eye Centre, and the fire control room. At the Nehru block, attendants were seen wheeling the patients through the waterlogged corridors. A video that emerged from the Advanced Eye Centre's showed the basement, where oxygen cylinders and other medical equipment were stored, filled with ankle-deep water. At the PGI staff canteen, located near the research block A and B, the dining area was completely flooded. The canteen caters to around 1,000 PGI staff on a daily basis, and routinely sees flooding during monsoon. A similar situation was seen on July 1 when the drainage system got choked, inundating the entire canteen. A staff member, on the condition of anonymity, said, "We face this problem every monsoon but authorities have not found a permanent solution." Pankaj Rai, deputy director, administration, said, "Unprecedented rainfall has caused water to overflow. We are actively working to resolve the situation."...
