Patiala, Aug. 19 -- Following continuous rainfall in the catchment areas over the past 48 hours, water levels in the Markanda and Tangri rivers, which flow through Patiala district, have risen sharply, triggering concerns about potential flooding in low-lying areas. By Monday evening, the Tangri River, a tributary of the Ghaggar River, had reached the danger mark of 12 feet, up from just 1.2 feet in the morning. The rising water levels have heightened worries, especially in flood-prone areas, prompting both district authorities and residents to remain on high alert. Officials from the district administration confirmed that they have been closely monitoring the water levels in these rivers. Patiala DC Preeti Yadav urged the public to report any breaches immediately, saying, "We are continuously monitoring water levels, including the Tangri and Markanda rivers. I appeal to the people to notify us of any breaches or dangerous situations." The Markanda River, which is also a tributary of the Ghaggar River, saw its water level rise to 18.6 feet by Monday evening, just 3.4 feet below the danger mark of 22 feet....
