Oppn guns for CM's resignation
Chandigarh, June 26 -- The opposition stepped up their attack on chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday, demanding his resignation and calling for his social boycott, alleging that he tried to undermine the authority of the Akal Takht.
Reacting to Mann's claims during a special press conference, Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring alleged that he was continuously "weaving a web of lies" around himself from which it will be impossible for him to get out.
Warring ridiculed Mann's defence of someone wearing a mask to look like him. He pointed out that first Mann claimed the video was AI-generated, then he claimed the person in the video was not him and now he had come up with another theory that the person was wearing a mask resembling his face. "I won't be surprised if Mann comes with some other lame defence tomorrow," he said.
Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa demanded a high-level judicial inquiry under the supervision of a sitting or retired high court judge to uncover the full truth behind the episode and identify every individual involved in the alleged cover-up.
BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, who left the AAP in April, demanded Mann's immediate resignation as the chief minister and an FIR against him under the new anti-sacrilege law.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia said the chief minister was making "repeated somersaults and telling a hundred lies to defend one lie" and alleged that he had now come up with the mask theory.
SGPC member and advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka also sought an FIR, warning that the alleged act could trigger unrest in the state and suggested the governor intervene to address the situation....
