Ludhiana, July 16 -- A MGNREGA worker was killed and around 20 others were injured when a vehicle carrying protesters overturned while returning from a demonstration in Khanna on Wednesday. The victims had participated in a protest organised by MGNREGA workers and other groups and were heading back to their villages, Ranghowal and Babije, when the accident occurred. The deceased was identified as Sukhdev Singh, an MGNREGA worker. He is survived by a son working in Muscat and two daughters. According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the pickup auto, carrying around 20-22 passengers, lost control after an object suddenly appeared in front of the vehicle, causing it to overturn.
