India, Sept. 6 -- Your next viral Reel could come with a not-so-viral consequence! The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has warned content creators (see left) against a social media trend involving sticking mobile phones to Metro train windows to film dramatic videos.
The trend typically sees creators attach a phone to a train window, dance on the platform and then appear to chase the Metro as it pulls away. The apparent daredevil act comes with some behind-the-scenes jugaad: the phone is usually removed before departure, while another person films from inside to create the illusion of a dramatic chase. The trend, already popular internationally, has now found a growing audience in India, with creators recreating it across railway and Metro settings.
The craze caught fire in Delhi after influencer Nikhil Kochar posted his version, dancing to the Bollywood track Manma Emotion Jaage. The reel has clocked more than 135 million views on Instagram, with several creators subsequently attempting similar videos at Metro stations. That prompted DMRC to put the brakes on the trend.
