Patiala/Sangrur, Sept. 7 -- Mohanjit Singh, who was allegedly tortured in custody after being detained for waving a black flag at Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann's "Lok Milni" programme in Sangrur on September 2, was referred to Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, from the Sangrur civil hospital on Sunday for a neurological assessment after complaining of headache and suffocation. At Rajindra Hospital, doctors found Mohanjit to be stable, with a CT scan of his head, ultrasound of the abdomen and echocardiography returning normal results. A senior health official at the hospital confirmed that Singh was stable, but would remain under observation for the next 24 hours. "All test reports so far are normal. We are constantly observing the patient. We have already taken the opinion of a neurosurgeon," the official said. At the Sangrur civil hospital, Dr Himanshu, who attended to Mohanjit, said the patient had complained of diarrhoea, stomach pain and headache and was treated accordingly. He said Mohanjit's vitals were stable, although his heartbeat was slightly elevated. Dr Himanshu said Mohanjit was referred to Rajindra Hospital for neurological opinion. He also denied allegations by Mohanjit's supporters and relatives that an injection administered to him had caused pain and abnormal behaviour. Mohanjit's relatives, meanwhile, alleged that he had been administered a wrong injection and claimed that he was in shock following the alleged custodial torture. The allegations triggered political criticism, with several opposition leaders visiting Mohanjit at the Sangrur civil hospital and demanding action against the cops involved. Punjab Police on Saturday transferred Sunam DSP Harvinder Singh Khaira and shifted inspector Parteek Jindal, sub-inspector Baljit Singh and assistant sub-inspector Harpreet Singh to the Sangrur police lines. The action came after Mohanjit alleged that he was tortured in custody for waving a black flag from the rooftop of a house near the venue of the chief minister's programme. He claimed he was raising slogans against the AAP government over its alleged failure to curb the drug menace. Meanwhile, a protest called in support of Mohanjit in Sangrur on Sunday was attended by Leader of Opposition Partap Bajwa, SAD leader Arvind Khanna and local leaders, including Winnerjit Singh Goldy and Rajinder Deepa. In Patiala, heavy police presence was deployed at the Rajindra Hospital to prevent overcrowding and maintain order as political leaders and supporters from different parties arrived or attempted to meet him....
