Mohali, Aug. 21 -- The municipal corporation (MC) has proposed the introduction of mechanical sweeping on 'C' and internal roads, with the agenda scheduled to be tabled for approval in the House meeting on Friday. The project is estimated to cost Rs.3.91 crore over a three-year period. Even before reaching the House, the proposal has drawn sharp criticism. Deputy mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi has strongly opposed the plan, declaring that he would resist the resolution in the meeting. "I hope all councillors of Mohali will oppose this move and will not allow it to pass," Bedi said. He further alleged that the agenda was being pushed under the directions of the AAP government in Punjab to "benefit their close ones". Highlighting earlier failures, Bedi added, "It is very difficult for mechanical cleaning of 'C' roads to succeed in Mohali. The mechanical sweeping of 'A' and 'B' roads has already faced multiple shortcomings which need to be addressed first."...
