Mixed outing for relay squads at int'l invitational competition
Chandigarh, March 29 -- India's relay squads delivered a mixed bag of results at the first International Invitational Relay Competition and third National Open Relay Competition held at Sector 7 Sports Complex on Saturday, strengthening their push towards qualification for the World Athletics Relays, scheduled in Gaborone, Botswana, on May 2 and May 3.
The men's 4x400m relay team of Manu TS, Amoj Jacob, D Chaudhary and Rajesh Ramesh clinched gold in 3:01.43 to improve their global standing on the Road to Gaborone 26. The mixed 4x100m relay teams also impressed, with India B setting a new national record of 42.30 seconds, eclipsing the previous 43.44 mark set in 2025. India A finished a close second in 42.34 seconds, while Maldives took third place.
However, there was disappointment for the men's 4x100m relay team, which was disqualified in the heats, missing a crucial opportunity to improve its world ranking before the April 5 deadline. "This was our last chance to qualify, but we missed it," said national record holder Animesh Kujur.
India's women's 4x100m and mixed 4x400m relay teams remain in contention for qualification, currently ranked 23rd and 22nd respectively. Final eligibility lists will be announced after April 5....
