Minerva Academy continues domination with 6-2 in Gothia Cup
Chandigarh, July 17 -- Minerva Academy FC continued their dominant run at the Gothia Cup (World Youth Cup) in Sweden, cruising into the pre-quarterfinals after a commanding 6-2 victory over Kenya's Legacy Academy in the play-off round.
The Indian side got off to a flying start when Tayenjam found the back of the net in just the second minute.
Legacy Academy responded in the 20th minute through Lazarus Elijah to level the scores at 1-1. However, Minerva quickly regained control. Khongsai scored three minutes later, restoring the lead at 2-1 before half-time.
Minerva carried the momentum into the second half, with Donald extending the lead to 3-1 in the 33rd minute. Although Chitiev pulled one back for the Kenyan side in the 44th minute, Minerva responded in emphatic fashion, scoring three goals in a row. Khongsai completed his brace in the 46th minute to make it 4-2 followed by Tayenjam's second goal of the match three minutes later.
Haokip put the result beyond doubt in the 52nd minute, finalising a comprehensive 6-2 victory.
The convincing win highlights Minerva Academy's attacking form and consistency as they progress further to the pre-quarterfinals of one of the world's most celebrated youth football tournaments....
