Srinagar, Aug. 11 -- Kashmir witnessed hot weather on Monday with Meteorological centre predictingheavy rains from Tuesday night. The Meteorological centre informed that summer capital Srinagar recorded a maximum day temperature of 33.2 degree Celsius,some 3.2 degrees above normal. The mercury climbed to 32.6 degrees Celsius in the northern district of Kupwara, while in the southern town of Qazigund, the gateway into Kashmir, the maximum temperature was 32 degrees celsius, some 4 degrees above normal. The Meteorological centre update said that light to moderate rain was expected at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at few districts of Jammu division and brief intense heavy showers at few districts of Kashmir division withpeak activity on August 11. "There is a possibility of heavy rain and brief intense heavy showers at few districts with heavy to very heavy rain at one or two districts on 11th August night," the update said. There are also chances of torrential rain/brief intense heavy showers that may generate flash floods and landslides at vulnerable places and water loggingconditions in low lying areas. "From August 12-16, there is possibility of light rain/thundershowers at many places with brief intense showers at few places," the MeT said.
