India, April 12 -- Hollywood star Meryl Streep says she is happy to represent older women in leading roles ahead of the release of The Devil Wears Prada 2. The film is a sequel to the 2006 hit and will also star Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, who reprise their roles. Streep, 76, said it is rare to see women her age leading major films. "There's something unusual about this, because you don't see many women in their 70s playing parts like this. So I'm happy to represent," she said in a video shared by The Associated Press. She added that women over 50 often "disappear into the woodwork" in popular culture. "Their interests and opinions are less valued, so it's fun to see a character who is placed in the world and has influence," she said. A three-time Academy Award winner, Streep has continued to headline films for over five decades, with acclaimed performances in The Post (2017), Florence Foster Jenkins (2016) and Into the Woods (2014), among others.
