Chandigarh, Sept. 10 -- Ahead of the Punjab assembly elections due early next year, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday inducted chief minister Bhagwant Mann, finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema, and former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain into the party's new political affairs committee (PAC). The decision to induct the three leaders - who have key roles to play in the upcoming election that holds major significance for AAP's political future - into the party's highest decision-making body was taken at its national council meeting. Arvind Kejriwal, unanimously re-elected as the party's national convener, has already named Mann as the AAP's CM-face for the Punjab polls. Cheema is a powerful minister and widely seen as the party's crisis manager in the state, while Jain is AAP's Punjab affairs' co-in charge. For Cheema, the induction has come at a time when he is facing Opposition criticism over the alleged suicide of a Dalit worker who questioned him about the unabated supply of drugs in the state.
