IMPHAL, Oct. 4 -- The Manipur government on Saturday assured action on the updation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and appealed to the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD) to put its September 30 deadline on hold. Government spokesperson Sapam Ranjan said the government had acknowledged the organisation's memorandums and was making efforts to turn its demands into action. JFD, which has been campaigning since March 11, 2026, has five demands, including updation of the NRC with 1951 as the cut-off year and "No NRC, No Census" to safeguard Manipur's indigenous population. "I would like to appeal to the JFD to put the deadline on hold, and then let us all work together," Ranjan said, urging the organisation to cooperate with the government.
