Mohali, Sept. 29 -- A 50-year-old confectioner lost his right leg and his 12-year-old nephew suffered amputation of his left arm after a truck ran over their scooter on the Singhpura flyover in Zirakpur on Saturday afternoon. The victims were identified as Harinder, a Dera Bassi resident, and his nephew Himanshu. According to the police, the mishap took place between 2pm and 2.30pm when the two were returning to Dera Bassi after running errands in Zirakpur. A Tata truck (RJ 32GE 3537) allegedly hit their scooter from the back, throwing them onto the road. The truck's rear wheels then ran over them. The truck stopped after the collision, but its driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Passers-by called an ambulance and took them to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh, from where they were referred to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Sector 12. Harinder's right leg was severed while Himanshu's left arm was amputated up to the shoulder. A case under Sections 281 (rash driving), 125(a)/ (b) (act endangering human life), and 324(4) (mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered against the unidentified driver....
