Mohali, Nov. 2 -- The Mohali excise department on Saturday arrested a man after recovering 132 bottles of illegal liquor from his car during a checking drive in Phase 1. The operation was carried out under the supervision of excise officer Dewan Chand, and the guidance of Patiala Zone deputy commissioner (Excise) Tarsem Chand and Ropar Range assistant commissioner (Excise) Ashok Chalotra. Officials said a team led by excise inspector Gurinder Pal had set up a naka near Kamla Market, Phase 1. During checking, a Maruti Suzuki Alto car (registration number CH01-AG-0490) was stopped. The driver, identified as Joga Singh, a resident of Teur village in Mohali district, was questioned. On searching the vehicle, the team recovered 132 bottles of liquor hidden in the car's trunk and the spare tyre compartment. Police said the liquor was brought from outside Punjab and was meant to be sold illegally in Mohali. An FIR was registered against Joga Singh at the Phase 1 police station under Sections 61 and 78 of the Punjab Excise Act, 1914.
