Ludhiana scrap shop explosion kills worker
Ludhiana, April 22 -- An explosion at a scrap unit in Ludhiana's Hambran area on Tuesday killed a 40-year-old worker and seriously injured another.
The blast occurred when the workers were processing metal waste; the impact was reportedly heard across the surrounding locality. The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, where Chandan Kumar was declared dead on arrival.
The second worker, 60-year-old Baba Phool Paswan, sustained serious injuries but is currently reported to be in a stable condition.
Preliminary investigations and CCTV footage indicate that the duo was burning scrap to extract metal when a suspicious object was accidentally introduced to the fire, triggering the blast. Both men were standing in close proximity when the object detonated. Inspector Amitpal Singh, the station house officer at Ladhowal, arrived at the scene with a forensic team to secure the area and collect evidence.
A probe is underway to identify the nature of the explosive. "CCTV footage indicates the blast occurred immediately after an object was thrown into the fire," a police official said, adding that strict legal action will follow against anyone found negligent or responsible for the presence of the hazardous material....
