Lucky Patial gang member held after police encounter
Jalandhar, July 10 -- Police have arrested a criminal associated with the Lucky Patial gang following an encounter on the outskirts of Jalandhar city on Thursday. The accused, identified as Jodh Singh, a resident of Shahkot, suffered a bullet injury on his left leg and is presently under medical observation at the Jalandhar civil hospital.
Jalandhar commissioner of police (CP) Satinder Singh said the accused was wanted in a firing incident outside a private hospital. On February 28, a motorcycle-borne youth opened indiscriminate fire outside Vardhman IVF Hospital, damaging the main door of the house-cum-clinic. The incident was recorded on the CCTV cameras installed outside the doctor's residence.
The CP said acting on a tip-off, the CIA staff launched a special operation and intercepted the accused. "In an attempt to evade arrest, the accused opened fire on the police party. Exercising their right to self-defence, the police retaliated, resulting in an exchange of fire. During the encounter, one bullet hit the accused in his left leg," the CP said.
He added that the police have recovered two .32-bore pistols from Jodh Singh's possession.
Police said a fresh FIR is being registered at the sadar police station in Jalandhar for murder bid, obstructing public servants from discharging their official duties and offences under the Arms Act. The CP said during probe, it came to fore that the accused is an active member of the foreign-based Lucky Patial gang and is a habitual offender with an extensive criminal record....
