Chandigarh, June 23 -- Residents can expect light rain on Wednesday due to an active western disturbance while Tuesday is likely to remain cloudy, India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials said. The city recorded 5.1 mm rain during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, bringing down the temperatures. The maximum temperature dropped from 39.8degC on Sunday to 35degC on Monday, which is 2.5 degrees below normal. The minimum dropped from 25degC to 22.4degC, 5.2 degrees below normal. After Wednesday's rain, clear skies are expected to return while the city waits for monsoon. According to Met officials, the monsoon is expected to miss its date with the city. While the normal date for monsoon onset in Chandigarh is June 26, this time, it is likely to arrive only in the first week of July. This is due to the El Nino conditions in Pacific Ocean which causes increased rainfall in parts of South America, East Africa, and the southern United States, while leading to drought-like conditions in parts of South Asia, eastern and northern Australia, Indonesia, southern Africa....
