Law student's murder: Main accused nabbed
Mohali, April 4 -- Two days after a 22-year-old Chandigarh University law student was stabbed to death in Kharar, police arrested the main accused, Ram, on Friday. Deceased Aman Dahiya had gone to drop his university friend Lavisa at her flat in a Gharuan housing society around 3 am on Wednesday when he was attacked.
According to complainant Neel Kumar (victim's uncle), the moment Aman stepped out of his vehicle after dropping Lavisa, accused Ram, who too is known to Lavisa, accompanied by two others - Monu and Vijay - confronted him. The trio allegedly caught Aman and stabbed him multiple times in the chest and back.
A grievously injured Aman managed to run towards a vacant plot and called his friends for help, naming the attackers. He was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, where doctors declared him dead.
Confirming the arrest, DSP Karan Sandhu said the attack, according to the complainant, appeared to be linked to another case in which accused Ram's car was involved and the latter suspected that the victim had provided information about him to the police.
"Raids are underway to arrest the remaining suspects," he said.
Police added that preliminary interrogation indicates the assault happened in a sudden fit of rage on Wednesday.
Lavisa was arrested on the day of the murder as officials questioned her to ascertain how the assailants reached the spot shortly after she arrivedhome. The family earlier told police that Aman had mentioned receiving threats from Ram in the past.
A local court has now sent Lavisa into judicial custody.
The accused have been slapped with Sections 103 (murder), 126 (2) (common intention), 351 (wrongful restraint) and 3 (5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. CCTV footage from the housing society and adjoining roads are being analysed.
