India, Sept. 22 -- N agaland has found a new spotlight on the global film stage, with Konyak-language drama Angh winning the coveted Platform Prize at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival. The Theja Rio-directed film, which is set in Nagaland, was announced as the winner on Sunday evening. The festival jury praised Angh for its "deeply resonant portrait of a world", while Rio was lauded for his "vision, audacity and courage." In his acceptance speech, Rio dedicated the award to his hometown and said, "This is just a beginning." With the win, Angh has directly qualified for the Best International Feature Film category at the Academy Awards. Starting this year, TIFF's Platform Prize is one of only six international festival awards with a direct pathway to the Oscars.
