Rohtak, April 2 -- The Bahadurgarh police in Jhajjar district on Wednesday claimed to have busted a human trafficking network that sold newborns to rich families in the National Capital and nearby cities, with the arrest of three persons, including a woman. The gang-members have been identified as Salim and Akhil, both residents of Ghaziabad, and Beant Kaur, a resident of Muktsar in Punjab. A three-day-old newborn was also rescued, police said, adding the mastermind of the gang is on the run and teams are on the lookout for him. Bahadurgarh deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Mayank Mishra said the gang comprises five members, of which three have been arrested and raids are on to arrest the other two. "The gang members are active in various states, including Haryana and Punjab. The accused brought the infant at Rs.2.25 lakh and were planning to sell it to a childless couple in Delhi at Rs.9.25 lakh. During questioning, the accused said that they have been targeting childless couples through social media platforms and assuring them of legal child adoption," the DCP added. The DCP said that the gang is active from Punjab to Maharashtra and they confessed their involvement in five such cases so far. A police official said that the wife of the main accused, who is absconding, and the daughter of arrested woman Beant Kaur are nurses in Punjab and they had been sharing details of newborn babies to the gang members. "The accused will be taken on remand. We will also identify the families who sold their infants and those who purchased them," said a senior police official....
