Jalandhar, Aug. 13 -- A 42-year-old man is on the run after allegedly bludgeoning his father and wife to death in Jalandhar's Avtar Nagar on Wednesday afternoon. The accused, Heera Lal, allegedly attacked his father, Ayodhya Parkash Singh, 65, and wife Sabita, 38, with a cricket bat and kitchen utensils, said police. The accused and his father were construction contractors, and the family had been living in Avtar Nagar for the past 30 years. Police said Singh and Sabita were found in a pool of blood at home after the couple's children returned home from school around 3 pm. Police responded to the scene after being alerted. ADCP Rakesh Yadav said police are gathering CCTV footage from nearby areas to track down the accused, who has been booked for murder. A 24-year-old youth was shot dead and his brother grievously injured after two men allegedly opened fire at them to avenge their uncle's murder in Kapurthala's Bishanpur Jattan village on Tuesday night, police said. The victim, Lovepreet Singh, alias Labba, 24, a resident of the same village, died on the spot, while his brother Harshdeep Singh is battling for life at a local hospital. An official privy to the probe revealed that the accused's 50-year-old uncle had allegedly raped Lovepreet's minor sister in the past. "Enraged, Lovepreet's brother allegedly killed the rape accused and was arrested. He recently came out on bail, following which he was targeted by the rape accused's nephews," the official said.
