India, Aug. 26 -- A ctor Urvashi Rautela has responded to criticism over the 'Tiranga gown' she wore while judging the Miss Universe India pageant in Jaipur on Sunday. The saffron, white and green gown, featuring a Chakra-like embellishment, drew criticism online, with some users questioning whether its resemblance to the National Flag was appropriate under flag-related rules. Rautela, however, contends that the outfit was not a reproduction of the National Flag. She tells us, "The most important point is that the gown is not a literal reproduction of the National Flag; it is a couture interpretation using tricolour inspired elements." Designed by Belarusian designer Darya Chermashentseva of DASHA Fashion Couture, the gown took around three months to create. She says the differences in shades, orientation, proportions, material and the central motif were intentional: "It deliberately alters the shades, turns the horizontal bands vertical, changes the emblem into a piece of jewellery... so that it reads as glamorous couture under stage lights rather than as a national flag." Calling the look a homage to India, the actor adds, "I carry my country with me not merely as a nationality, but as a part of my identity."...
