Kapurthala, May 24 -- An inmate was hurt after violence erupted inside Kapurthala Modern Jail late on Saturday evening, prompting deployment of a heavy police force. Videos purportedly showing clashes between the inmates and jail officials went viral on social media. HT could not independently verify the authenticity of the videos. The situation remained tense as the inmates, armed with iron rods and sticks, refused to come down from the rooftop. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Gaurav Toora said the police are trying to bring the situation under control. "According to initial reports, the violence erupted in barrack number 4 when inmates allegedly attacked the jail officials during the evening count," Toora said.
