Jalandhar, March 4 -- Sitting and former Congress MLAs on Tuesday criticised India's trade deal with the United States. Holding a press conference in Jalandhar, Congress MLAs Pargat Singh and Hardev Singh Laddi Sherowalia said through this deal, the central government had effectively sold the country's agricultural sector to the United States. Terming the agreement as one that would drive farmers into economic ruin, they demanded that it be immediately revoked in the interest of the nation's farmers. Pargat added that the deal would not only affect farmers but also impact markets and trading partners. "Industries such as leather and plastic, along with crops like cotton, would suffer significant losses. Even dairy products would be imported from the US under the deal," he said. He further alleged that the AAP-led state government appeared to be siding with the central government on this issue. "The AAP staged token protests merely to mislead the public," he said.htc...
