Srinagar, March 8 -- Iltija Mufti, who is advisor to PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and constituency incharge of Bijbhera, on Saturday alleged that after she posted videos on police atrocities, the director general of police, has ordered shuffling and singling out her security officers. Iltija Mufti said that she had recently tweeted a video of a Jammu and Kashmir police officer raining blows on women protestors in Srinagar for mourning the tragic assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamani. "There were also other credible instances where police officers had misbehaved and thrashed protestors causing grievous injuries. Within 48 hours, the DG has passed a senseless unwarranted order shuffling and singling out my security officers," Iltija Mufti said in a letter addressed to Union home minister Amit Shah which she posted on X. She said that when the situation in Kashmir remains worryingly fragile, it's baffling and strange in equal measure that the top police officer's priority isn't to restore a sense of peace and normalcy. "But instead, harass those who speak truth to power. Under what law is it illegal or punishable to highlight misconduct of those in uniform? I faced similar harassment after visiting Bilawar in February, 2025, where a man committed suicide in mysterious circumstances right after being tortured in police custody."
