Chandigarh, April 23 -- Amid investigations into the Rs.75-crore CREST funds scam, the Centre hassuspended Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Navneet Kumar Srivastava, it has been learnt. Srivastava, who was serving as the chief executive officer of the Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST), had earlier been removed from the post. During the suspension period, he has been directed to report to the head office as per service rules. Sukhwinder Singh Abrol, former project director, CREST, has already been arrested and sent to judicial custody in the case. The Chandigarh police'seconomic offences wing has also arrested several bankofficials and municipal officials. Police investigations reveal crores of government funds were allegedly siphoned off through shell companies using forged documents, including fake fixed deposit receipts and manipulated bank records. According to police, the arrested bank officials tookSrivastava's name duringdisclosure. It is learnt that the CREST funds were transferred to shell companies and then transferred to Srivastava's relative's account, however, police confirm that they have not found any direct evidence in the case against him....
