I've not had a godfather in the industry: Sara
India, Oct. 29 -- Sara Ali Khan has acknowledged the advantages of being born into a film family but said the scrutiny over nepotism often overshadows an actor's individual effort.
Asked whether her family legacy had helped or weighed her down, the actor told Filmfare, "It's a combination of both. I'm not naive or delusional enough to not accept and be grateful for the fact that it has opened doors. It has given me access; it has given me recognition and fame, maybe even before I became an actor. But having said that, sometimes I do feel that the bar is too high... What I don't appreciate is that it takes away from the effort that one has made."
The 31-year-old also said her father, actor Saif Ali Khan, did not directly manage her career, recalling the difficulties surrounding her debut film, Kedarnath (2018). "I've not had a father going to offices, negotiating my contracts and begging people to take me in their films. When I had a problem with Kedarnath, I was sorting it out myself. There was no one with me. It's a double-edged sword. Because I've not had a godfather in the industry."
Sara also spoke about growing up with her mother, actor Amrita Singh, after her parents separated. "I fully understood that I lived with a single parent. Of course there is a father out there, if you really need him. I've been lucky enough to not need him." She credited her mother's upbringing for helping her grow up without feeling the absence of a father, adding, "My mom did her best... She's also been a strong, independent mother who herself was raised by a single mother. Maybe there was a strength and vigour in her upbringing which didn't allow me to miss a father the way I'd have if she were just a sweet mamma."HTC...
