I am totally bald, this is a wig: Yo Yo Honey Singh on side effects of bipolar disorder treatment
India, May 28 -- Rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh, who has been vocal about his battle with substance abuse and bipolar disorder, has revealed the physical toll of treatment, including weight gain and complete hair loss.
"I was on heavy medication for seven years. I became 105 kilos because of it, and I lost my hair completely. This is fake hair, I am totally bald. This is a wig," the 43-year-old said on the ABtalks podcast.
Recalling the first signs of his condition, Singh said he was judging a music reality show and touring the US with actor Shah Rukh Khan in 2014 when paranoia began to set in: "I was getting suspicious thoughts that I will die on stage, and I was thinking how I can skip it. So I shaved half of my head."
Singh then withdrew completely from the outside world for seven years. "I stayed inside my house for seven years. I didn't want my fans to see me in that condition. I locked myself inside and didn't even meet my childhood friends," he shared, adding, "Bipolar disorder takes you into destructive thoughts that are not real, but it makes you feel like they are actually happening."
Singh added that he had stopped doing drugs in 2014, but by 2018-19, his condition worsened and he believed he was "already dead". "I thank God this happened to me in my early 30s because I was still able to make a comeback," he said, adding, "I came out burnt and exhausted, but I feel okay now."htc...
