FIFA president Gianni Infantino has been criss-crossing the continent in a private jet, hopping from one host city to another as football's biggest spectacle unfolds. The result? A near-constant presence at matches and renewed curiosity about the man who runs world football. According to various reports, Infantino's net worth is estimated at $14-16 million (approximately Rs.120-138 crore), while FIFA's annual reports indicate that his compensation package, including salary and bonuses, is worth around $6 million (about Rs.52 crore) a year.
Born in Brig, Switzerland, to Italian immigrant parents, Infantino trained as a lawyer before joining UEFA in 2000. He rose through the ranks to become its general secretary before being elected FIFA president in 2016 following the corruption scandal that brought an end to Sepp Blatter's tenure.
Since then, he has overseen major changes to the sport, including expanding the men's World Cup to 48 teams and launching an expanded Club World Cup. While supporters credit him with broadening football's global reach, critics have questioned the sport's increasingly crowded calendar.
