Hema Malini celebrates diamond jubilee in cinema, honours Dharmendra's legacy
India, July 12 -- Mumbai's Shanmukhananda Hall turned into an evening of remembrance and celebration on Friday as the film fraternity came together for Hema Malini - Live in Concert, marking the actor's 60 years in Indian cinema. The event also served as an emotional tribute to her late husband Dharmendra.
Remembering their journey together, Malini recalled how Dharmendra continued to encourage her artistic pursuits. "Dharam Ji always used to tell me, 'Never think that just because you're doing fewer films, it's the end of the road... Just keep going. It's wonderful'," she recalled.
She also spoke about his final wish for the family: "He wanted that all of us should be together."
As tributes to Dharmendra unfolded, Malini became emotional while recalling receiving the Padma Vibhushan on his behalf. "I felt as if he was standing behind me and saying, 'Go, take this honour.' His memories will always stay with me," she said.
The evening featured a 15-piece orchestra recreating Malini's iconic melodies, with the veteran actor also taking the stage to sing and share anecdotes from classics such as Seeta aur Geeta (1972) and Sholay (1975). The event saw appearances by veterans including Jeetendra, Shatrughan Sinha, Rakesh Roshan, Ramesh Sippy, Subhash Ghai and Javed Akhtar, who were honoured as Diamonds of Indian Cinema.
