BENGALURU, Sept. 9 -- The Karnataka High Court has allowed a private complaint alleging irregularities in the allotment of a civic amenity site in Bengaluru to a trust associated with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and his family to proceed, rejecting a plea to stop the proceedings. The dispute concerns an 8,125-sq-m site in Banashankari allotted by the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) to the Siddhartha Vihar Trust. The complainant, Vijayraghava Marathe, has alleged violations in the allotment process and questioned a concession that reduced the lease consideration. Marathe has alleged that the trust claimed Scheduled Caste status while applying for the site and consequently received a 50% concession on the lease amount. He has also alleged collusion between BDA officials and beneficiaries of the allotment. Those named in the complaint have disputed the allegations. Justice M Nagaprasanna was hearing Marathe's challenge to the Special Court's decision to proceed with the private complaint under Section 223 of the BNSS, instead of directing the Lokayukta police to register a case and investigate. KPCC research chairman Dodde gowda said, "We will obey and honour the law. The trust is doing social service but few people are making false allegations."...
