Hallomajra Man gets 20-yr jail for raping niece
Chandigarh, April 9 -- A 26-year-old resident of Hallomajra has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) forraping his niece in 2024.
The incident took place in April 2024 when the victim, who was 13-years-old then, was alone at her maternal grandparents' house.
He uncle, after raping her, had threatened her of direconsequences if she revealed the matter to anyone about this. However, after a few days, she started experiencing pain in the stomach.
Following this, she was taken to Government Multi Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, where doctors found that she was pregnant.
A case under Sections 376(3) (raping a woman under 16 years of age) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered at the Maloya police station.
While the convict earlier claimed that he was innocent and being framed, he opted for trial. The prosecution was able to establish his guilt beyond reasonable doubt, and accordingly, sentenced him the 20-year RI on Wednesday. He was told to pay a fined of Rs.55,000....
