Hail, thunderstorm on cards today, says MeT
Chandigarh, April 4 -- The city witnessed 3.6 mm rain and gusty winds that reached up to 56 km per hour on Friday evening, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The rain and thunder lasted for around an hour starting from around 5:30 pm.
This is the first spell of rain this month, which is a result of a strong western disturbance (WD).
IMD's Chandigarh director Surender Paul said the WD was more active in southern parts of Haryana and a few other parts of the region, resulting in a little rain in the city as well.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for thunderstorm, gusting winds up to 60km/h and hailstorm in the city for Saturday, asking people to avoid venturing out unnecessarily and and not take shelter undertrees.
A fresh WD is likely to affect the city on April 7 or 8.
The maximum temperature fell from Thursday's 35.7degC to 31.7degC on Friday, 1degC below normal. The minimum temperature rose from 17.6degC on Thursday to 19.9degC on Friday, 1degC above normal....
