Gurugram sees 23mm rainfall, logs 52% deficit last month
Gurugram, Oct. 1 -- Gurugram received only 23.7 mm of rain in September, leaving the district with a 52.1% deficit against its normal 49.5 mm, India Meteorological Department data showed.
September's rainfall followed a 17% surplus in August, when Gurugram received 217.4 mm against the normal 185.1 mm. In July, it received 163 mm against a normal 175 mm, a 12 mm shortfall that placed it in the 'normal' category, IMD data showed.
Haryana received 76.5 mm in September against the normal 140.1 mm, recording a 45% deficit, its first September shortfall in three years. The state saw a 70% surplus in September 2025 and 37% in 2024, while September 2023 saw a 44% deficit.
Fourteen districts recorded deficient or largely deficient rainfall. Bhiwani recorded the highest deficit at 84%, followed by Nuh at 74%, Sonepat at 70%, Faridabad at 66%, Jind at 65%, Mahendragarh at 64% and Fatehabad at 61%. Ambala recorded a 34.1% deficit, followed by Jhajjar at 44%, Rewari at 48%, Yamuna Nagar at 55%, Kaithal at 56.5% and Sirsa at 58%. Hisar, Palwal, Charkhi Dadri, Karnal and Kurukshetra recorded normal rainfall, while Panchkula recorded 8% above normal.
"Haryana's rainfall deficit in September was largely due to the early weakening and withdrawal of the southwest monsoon over northwest India," the official added, asking not to be named.
IMD officials said the monsoon has withdrawn and temperatures might dip due to recent snowfall in higher reaches, though dry weather is expected.htc...
