Guava used to smuggle SIMs, phone batteries into jail, 2 held
Chandigarh, April 17 -- Alert staff at Model Jail, Sector 51, Chandigarh, foiled an attempt to smuggle mobile batteries and SIM cards into the prison after recovering the items hidden inside guavas brought for an inmate.
The incident took place around 3.35 pm on Tuesday, when two women, Paramjeet Kaur and Jyoti, residents of Dadumajra, came to meet undertrial Rahul.
They identified themselves as the undertrial's mother and wife, respectively.
While screening the items in their possession, warder Mohinder Pal noticed suspicious tampering in a guava fruit.
On closer inspection, he found two mobile batteries and two SIM cards concealed inside one of the guavas.
The warder immediately alerted senior officials and arrested the women under Sections 52 (A) (1) (smuggling in banned items into the jail) of The Prisons Punjab Amendment Act-2011, 61 (2) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita....
