Gross direct tax collections grew 12.5%
New Delhi, June 19 -- Gross direct tax collections in the current financial year 2026-27 up to June 17 have seen a 12.46% annualised growth to about Rs.6.10 lakh crore, driven by higher corporate and non-corporate tax revenues, according to government data released on Thursday.
Gross corporate tax (CT) revenue in the current period (April 1 to June 17, 2026) increased by 11.32% to Rs.2,76,538.46 crore compared to Rs.2,48,415.90 crore collected during the same period of the previous fiscal year.Gross non-corporate tax (NCT) collections in 2026-27 (up to June 17) jumped by 12.05% to Rs.3,14,653.07 crore as compared to Rs.2,80,790.28 crore in the same period of 2025-26, data showed. NCT is predominantly personal or individual tax.Net direct tax revenue, however, jumped by 14.64% to Rs.5.21 lakh crore in the period because of lower corporate tax refunds.CT refunds in the current period fell by 12.8% to Rs.68,304.99 crore as compared to Rs.78,344.81 crore in the corresponding period of FY26. NCT refunds, however, jumped by over 115% to Rs.20,715.51 crore in the current period under consideration as compared to Rs.9,632.47 crore in the same period of FY26.
Overall refunds issued in the current period of FY27, however, saw a marginal growth of 1.19% to Rs.89,025.71 crore, compared to Rs.87,979.39 crore in the same period of FY26.
Gross and net securities transaction tax (STT) revenues saw a sharp 45% increase to Rs.18,856.12 crore from Rs.13,013.02 crore in the same period a year ago....
