IMPHAL, Sept. 5 -- A suspected grenade exploded near the residence of Congress leader K Meghachandra Singh in Manipur's Thoubal district, while in a separate incident one man was shot dead in Imphal East, police said on Friday. According to police, the explosive set off at around 8.15 pm on Thursday inside the residential campus of Congress legislative party leader, located at Bishnunaha, Yairipok. During preliminary probe, a hand grenade lever was recovered from the site, police said. No casualties have been reported and a case has been registered. Chief minister Yumnam Khemchand on Friday condemned the attack. "Such acts of violence against elected representatives are unacceptable and will not be tolerated,"he said.
