AMRITSAR, Sept. 1 -- Guru Nanak Dev University vice-chancellor Karamjeet Singh on Monday said the university will develop an archive to preserve historical documents in digital form, and extended all possible support to scholars and researchers in this direction. Addressing a discussion organised on the university campus on the book 'Sikh Struggle Documents 1920-2022', authored by Chandigarh-based journalist-turned-author Jagtar Singh, the VC said history should be understood not merely on the basis of narratives or perceptions, but through original documents and authentic sources. The VC also released the Punjabi version of the book. The VC emphasised the need to strengthen the Punjabi language and develop an archive to digitally preserve historical documents. He said the university is ready to extend all possible support to scholars and researchers in this direction. Author Jagtar Singh said the book contains important documents related to different historical periods. "Such documents help in understanding the political and social circumstances prevailing at the time of an event and the positions taken by different parties," he said.HTC...
