Dera Bassi, Sept. 24 -- Panic gripped Kheri village in the Dera Bassi area after a JCB machine damaged an underground gas pipeline during excavation work on the Pandwala-Sundran-Kheri road on Monday. Gas escaped at high pressure, creating a large pit by the roadside. The main valve was shut in time, averting any fire or casualties. The incident occurred when the JCB, being used for excavation on the road, hit a main gas pipeline. Soon after the damage, gas began gushing out under high pressure. Local administration officials and company representatives were informed and reached the spot. Officials said there was no immediate danger and no injuries were reported.
