From stalemate to site work: GMADA revives mega townships
India, Jan. 1 -- After a staggering 12-year delay, the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) is finally set to launch the Eco City-2 (Extension) in February 2026. Simultaneously, GMADA has achieved a major breakthrough in its ambitious Eco City-3 project.
What it means: The successful announcement of land awards-with rates as high as Rs.6.46 crore per acre-suggests that GMADA has finally regained the trust of local farmers. These townships are designed to be self-sustaining "green" hubs that will alleviate the mounting housing pressure on Chandigarh.
What next: For Eco City-2 (Extension), developmental works are being fast-tracked for the February launch. For Eco City-3, tenders for infrastructure development are expected to be floated in early 2026....
