Karnal, Aug. 26 -- Four elderly pilgrims from Punjab were killed when a Haryana Roadways bus and their pick-up vehicle collided near Keorak village of Kaithal on Monday morning, police said. The accident occurred near a petrol station on the Kaithal-Pehowa section of National Highway-152 at 8am, the police said, adding the collision was so severe that four of the seven passengers in the pick-up vehicle died on the spot. The three injured were rushed to the civil hospital in Kaithal from where they were referred to Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh. The bus was headed from Hisar's Adampur to Chandigarh. The deceased were identified as Narender Singh, Hakikat Singh, Kaku Singh and Makhan Singh, all in their early 60s. As per the information, the deceased belonged to Rameana village near Jaito in Faridkot district. Sources reported that a group of 10 residents from Rameana left the village to visit a gurdwara in Pehowa to attend a religious congregation (satsang) in a pickup van and stayed in Kaithal overnight. They again began their journey in the morning when the accident happened. The police said a search was on for the absconding bus driver. Deputy superintendent of police Sushil Parmar said that eight people were travelling in the vehicle, including the driver, and seven were injured, of which two died at the spot and two during treatment at hospital. A 22-wheeler truck-trailer overturned after a road cave-in near Sangrur bypass on the Bathinda-Chandigarh National Highway early Monday morning. The mishap reportedly occurred between 3 am and 3:15 am. The truck's driver, Lashman Singh, suffered minor injuries and stated that the accident happened amid heavy rainfall when the trailer was on its way to Bathinda from Chandigarh. According to Singh, despite having informed the authorities about the incident, no help came until noon. The driver and others at the scene diverted the traffic. The truck's owner, Khushveer Singh, said they called the toll-free number at 4:33 am, "but a response team arrived around 12 to 12:30 pm." Khushveer estimated the loss at around Rs.7 to Rs.8 lakh and said seven of the tyres busted in the accident....
