Four gangsters killed, 3 cops injured in Gurugram shootout
Gurugram, July 10 -- Four gangsters were shot dead and one was injured after a shootout in Gurugram's Sushant Lok Phase-2, police said on Thursday, adding that they were trying to overcome "a hostage situation".
Three police personnel were critically injured in the shootout.
Gurugram police said the suspects had holed themselves up inside a businessman's house and had taken his son hostage.
Teams from the crime branch surrounded the house and tried to get to the suspects, who tried to flee and fired at the police, said officers aware of the matter.
Deputy commissioner of police (crime) Hitesh Yadav said teams from the crime branch were mobilised after an alert. "The suspects fired at the police team from the house," he said, adding the shootout took place between 10pm to 10.15pm.
"Crime teams retaliated and five suspects were injured. Three police personnel also sustained bullet injuries," he said. A preliminary probe revealed that the suspects were linked with Deepak Nandal's gang. Nandal, who is likely based out of London, has been wanted for a year and his associates have been involved in a spree of high-profile firings, including YouTuber Elvish Yadav, singer Fazilpuria, as well as a clutch of real-estate developers.
Investigators said all the injured suspects and police personnel were rushed to a hospital in Sector 38 where four of the suspects were declared dead on arrival. They said one of the suspects and the three police personnel were being treated. All of them were critical.
Yadav said investigations were launched to gather intelligence about the suspects and gang.
An attempt to murder case was under process of being registered at Sushant Lok PS in connection with the encounter....
