Karnal, April 12 -- A team of the Haryana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Chandveer, a forest department official posted in the Assandh in Karnal district, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs.1.5 lakh on Saturday. The ACB said the bribe was demanded in lieu of not trapping the complainant in a false case of cutting a tree on forest land. Giving information about the arrest, Karnal range inspector Sultan Singh said: "The complainant contacted the ACB and informed them that the accused was demanding Rs.15 lakh, which was further negotiated to Rs.1.5 lakh. The victim was developing a farmhouse on his land on Jind road and had cleared the way. The official told him that he was occupying forest land and had also cut a tree two weeks ago." Based on the complaint, the ACB investigated the matter and arrested the accused red-handed while accepting bribe at the office of a local property dealer in Assandh.
