Fire rips through Dera Bassi furniture shop; no casualties
Dera Bassi, Oct. 22 -- A massive fire broke out at a furniture store in Dera Bassi on Tuesday afternoon, destroying furniture, wood, and foam worth lakhs of rupees. No injuries were reported.
The fire started around 3 pm, with thick smoke quickly billowing from the store. Fire tenders from Zirakpur and Dera Bassi were rushed to the scene. Firefighters battled the flames for nearly two hours before bringing the fire under control.
"We reached the site immediately after receiving the call. The fire was brought under control after two hours of continuous effort. A short circuit is suspected to be the cause," he said.
Workers at the store reported that the fire spread rapidly, leaving them with little time to salvage the stock. "We saw smoke rising, and in minutes, the entire store was engulfed," said Manoj, a worker present at the site. Officials confirmed that the store had recently received a fresh shipment of furniture, wood, and foam materials, all of which were destroyed in the blaze.
