Mohali, May 11 -- A fire broke out at a scrapyard behind a marriage palace on the Patiala-Zirakpur road on Sunday, sending thick plumes of smoke billowing across the area. Officials said the blaze damaged crockery, sofas and decorative material kept in the parking area of AKM Palace. While the exact extent of the losses is yet to be assessed, authorities said property worth several lakhs is feared to have been destroyed. As many as 12 fire tenders from Zirakpur, Dera Bassi, Panchkula and the Air Force Station were pressed into service to douse the blaze. Fire officer Rajeev Kumar said the exact cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained, though a short circuit is suspected to have triggered the blaze....
