Farmers end stir after speaker's assurance
Karnal, April 30 -- Haryana assembly speaker Harvinder Kalyan on Wednesday met protesting farmers and assured them that service lanes would be constructed along the eastern bypass or Karnal Ring Road.
The Karnal Ring Road project is part of the Union government's Bharatmala Pariyojana, which aims to ease traffic on National Highway (NH)-44 or GT Road. Kalyan said that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have approved the construction of the service lanes on both sides between Meerut Road and Rasulpur village.
After the meeting at the rest house of the Karnal Cooperative Sugar Mill, the farmers under the banner of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) decided to call off their nearly three-month-long dharna.
Deputy commissioner Anand Kumar Sharma, municipal corporation commissioner Vaishali Sharma, and sugar mill MD Aditi were also present. The speaker said he had raised the issue with Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who further took it up with Centre. "I have personally visited the site earlier and later took up the issue with the NHAI authorities. Now, the request for service lanes has been approved, and the process of land acquisition will start soon," he said.htc...
