Farmer leader condemns destruction of paddy seedlings
Karnal, May 9 -- A day after the agriculture department destroyed paddy seedlings on 12 acres of land in two villages of Karnal, farmer leader and national spokesperson of All India Kisan Congress, Inderjit Singh Goraya condemned the action and said that the farmers had committed no wrongdoing by growing early-stage seedlings.
He said that seedlings typically take 30 to 40 days to mature; thus, these seedlings were on track to be ready for paddy transplantation by June 12-a timeline that aligns perfectly with the transplantation schedule mandated by the government.
Goraya asserted that this action serves as a clear indicator of the BJP government's anti-farmer mindset and constitutes an unlawful interference in the farmers' work, an act that deserves to be strongly condemned.
"We demand that legal action be initiated against the officials responsible for trampling the farmers' seedlings, and that replacement seeds be provided to the farmers for the destroyed stock as soon as possible," he added.htc...
