Fake e-challan: P'kula man loses Rs.1L to cyber fraudsters
Panchkula, Aug. 20 -- A 34-year-old man allegedly lost Rs.1 lakh after cyber fraudsters sent him an APK file disguised as an RTO challan through WhatsApp. The Cyber Crime Police have registered a case.
According to the FIR, complainant Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Sector 20, Panchkula, received an APK file on his mobile phone from an unknown number on July 25 around 6 pm. The file was sent from an unknown number with a message suggesting it related to an RTO challan.
Kumar said he opened the file but noticed it did not contain any visible information. He subsequently deleted the file and the message from his phone.
However, on August 10, he received a message informing that Rs.1,00,000 had been debited from his credit card. He immediately contacted the bank and realised that he had fallen victim to cyber fraud. After receiving the complaint, the Cyber Crime police station registered an FIR on August 15 under Section 318(4) (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against an unidentified accused....
