Chandigarh, Aug. 7 -- About 10.7 mm of rainfall in the city triggered traffic jams on several roads in the tricity on Thursday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Friday, after which the days ahead are expected to be drier. A yellow alert, the second-lowest of the IMD's four colour-coded weather warnings, indicates the possibility of moderate rainfall. The IMD's forecast for Friday mentions partly cloudy skies with thunderstorms and rain over Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula. The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 31degC, while the minimum temperature is likely to be 25degC. From Saturday onwards, temperatures are expected to gradually rise, with the maximum temperature increasing from 33degC on Saturday to 35degC by Monday, while the minimum temperature is likely to remain between 26degC and 27degC over the next four days. Meanwhile, the city's maximum temperature on Thursday settled at 31.4degC, which was 2degC below normal, while the minimum temperature stood at 25degC, 1.7degC below normal. During the rain, a long traffic queue formed near the dividing road between Sectors 32 and 33.
